Vice Principal’s Message

Dear Tetso Family,
The month of March was a month of relearning for the UG students as they underwent the Hybrid Learning Model. It is evidence of the fact that the landscape of learning is rapidly changing along with the unpredictable future. With the COVID surge recurring, it is also a signal that we must be prepared for change and continue to be on our guard and maintain SOP’s.

On 10th April 2021, we celebrated the UG Meet & Greet under the theme of Salvete which means welcome in Latin. It was the first large public gathering held in the amphitheatre after a year since the outbreak of the COVID pandemic as we wanted to welcome the UG students back on campus in as grand and warm a manner as possible.

If we recall in the month of June 2020 we had to welcome our Freshers online and I know it was nothing at all like what you expected your first day of college life would be like. Now as you are much closer home by being on campus, remember that you are now one of us and you represent us to the world.

Tetso College is your identity and you are Tetso College. If you are doing well then Tetso College is doing well and vice versa. Similarly, if you are doing something wrong, then Tetso College is also doing something wrong. Our fates are tied together and therefore it is our responsibility to uphold, support, improve, move forward together and help one another grow stronger together. If anyone is facing any issues, as a family, we must solve the problems we have together.

We continue to believe that every one of us has an important role to play in the society as our vision states “we are here to create a positive impact in society” So for whatever reason it is that you joined Tetso College, whether as a student or teacher, remember that a degree, a job, or an award is not the end goal of education or your time here at Tetso, but it is to use the education and your experiences to create a positive impact within our communities – both big and small – within our families, our churches, our communities and social circles or any organisation you may be affiliated to.

One practice we need to avoid in the misguided notion that this will help create change in our society is what the former President of the United States, Barack Obama berates about those who think this manner – The way of me making change is to be as judgmental as possible about other people and that’s enough.” Mr. Obama said. “That’s not bringing about change. If all you’re doing is casting stones, you’re probably not going to get that far. That’s easy to do.”

Instead, it is our mission at Tetso College, that each one of you creates change by becoming empowered towards lifelong excellence. Tetso is a place for you to hope and dream, to grow and improve, to experiment and learn – so that you can develop all the expertise you need to create that positive impact in the world.

To the Class of 2023 – the 2nd semester students, the class of 2022 – our 4th sem students and the class of 2021 – our current 6th semester students:

At Tetso College, we all start at the same point over here. Everyone starts with a blank page and we are all equal. No one is superior or inferior over another. It is what we do from here on that will change the direction of our lives. I challenge you all to write your own futures, to begin the journey of creating your own destiny while you are here at Tetso College. We know you can do it.

No feat is too small for our Tetso students. Our students and alumni are testimony of that fact. We already have students who are running their own businesses such as Ningtoulung Gangmei of BBA 6th Semester, students who have accomplished book publications such as Merasen-na of BA 6th Sem English Honours who was recently featured on our DOT Talk platform and we know there are many more of you waiting to be discovered. We even have alumni studying and working in Universities and places all over the world as far as USA, Australia and Japan. Furthermore, we have been collaborating with organisations such as Clefnote Music Academy founded by our alumni Albert Sangtam; we are offering computer classes through IIHT brought to us by our alumni Akedi; we are offering coaching classes through ALS brought to us by our alumni Imdong Anar, and we continue to have alumni working amongst our teaching faculty and administrative staff too. We could not be prouder of what the Tetso family has been able to achieve and are excited for the rest of your futures too. Reach out to us and we would like to open the doors for our Tetso students and alumni in whatever way we can.

So Tetso students, as you study here at Tetso College, make the most of the time you have today and enjoy creating your college memories, while at the same time – keep your eye on the future, remembering to always dream, think and do.

A brief update on the Principal, Dr. P.S. Lorin: He extends his warmest greetings to all of you. He is doing well and onto the next stage of his treatment. We thank you for the constant prayers and request you all to continue upholding him in your prayers.

Strive for Excellence.

A DOT Talks session was held on 8th April 2021 with Merasen-na Jamir, a student of BA English 6th Semester, Tetso College and author of ‘Into My Abyss’. Published by Penthrill Publication House, the book talks about issues prevailing in the Naga society especially addressing the dilemma of a teenager, who is often pressured with good grades, expectations and peer pressure.

“It talks about peer pressure, the corruption that just openly breeds without any sense of fear, the educational value and the system it has, about the Orthodox Naga society which creates toxicity even within our own families and how much mental health is still such a taboo or thought of as superficial. There are hints of love and friendship all around the book. I wrote this as a means of telling the teens today that there is always someone and that they aren’t alone, also to the society that we need to break these chains instead of always talking about breaking the stigma and not doing anything about it,” Merasen-na said.
