ICFAI’s ‘Cultural Day’ held

Forum for Cultural Studies (FoCuS), ICFAI University Nagaland celebrated its 2nd Annual Cultural Day on March 10 under the theme, ‘Negotiating Food and Culture’ with Organic Nagaland founder Abokali Jimomi as the resource person.
In her speech, Abokali, emphasized on the importance of preserving traditional ingredients to keep the food culture alive. She also stressed on food as an essential element of culture because it operates as an expression of cultural identity.
The Music Club presented Hi Hiyo Hi as an opening act for the day. The first session showcased narratives of origin stories, musical piece, Nepali dance (Kadam chaloagipachi), traditional songs and show. Food exhibition by different communities constituted the second session. More than seventeen groups came forward to exhibit the food of their respective community. It was indeed an excellent opportunity for everyone to learn more about the food culture of one another. Indigenous games such as pole climbing, walking on bamboo stills, wrestling, board games and many were some of the main attractions of the event.
