The Nagaland Board of School Education (NBSE) has informed heads of Higher Secondary Schools and Colleges registered with the Board that as per the directive of the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD), Government of India, it is mandatory for any student desirous of availing scholarship benefit under the Central Sector Scholarship Scheme for College and University students to have the Aadhaar number.
In this connection, the Heads of the Institutions have been requested to inform students in their respective Schools/Colleges who are still without Aadhaar number to enroll for Aadhaar at the earliest, failing which they will not be eligible to avail the scholarship, a DIPR report stated.
According to MHRD, the move to make Aadhaar mandatory for scholarship schemes is to bring in transparency and enable beneficiaries to get their entitlements directly in a convenient and seamless manner, and obviates the need for producing multiple documents to prove identity.
The ministry has made similar provisions for school students who are due to apply for Means-cum-Merit Scholarship Scheme.
