ATTENDANCE SPARSE AS PUBLIC BOYCOTTS R-DAY EVENT

The 70th Republic day celebrations remained low key across Nagaland as public organisations called for a boycott over the controversial Citizenship Amendment Bill, 2016.
The Republic day celebrations remained empty as students and public refrained from attending the Republic day celebrations over boycott calls from the student organisations along with the rest of the North Eastern states to protest the controversial Citizenship Amendment Bill, 2016, which has been under review by the Rajya Sabha .
The state governor P.B Acharya said the state government was concerned with the issue of the Citizenship Amendment Bill which was recently passed by the Lok Sabha.
“We are of the unequivocal view that the Citizenship Amendment Bill, 2016 is not applicable to Nagaland and we stand protected under the provisions of Article 371 (A) of the Constitution of India and the Inner Line Permit (ILP) mechanism,” he said.
Meanwhile also appealing to the centre to review the act and amend it in accordance with the rights of the indigenous tribal’s.
