Legal Implications of Covid-19

Coronavirus Covid-19 has claimed more than 100,000 lives all over the world. Along with the policy of complete lockdown, characterized by the practice of ‘social distancing’, many complex legal issues have arisen while implementing the ‘Lockdown’. In the Indian context, as has been shown in the media, people have been seen flouting curfew orders, issues regarding accusations as to the highhandedness of the police administration has also surfaced. Public vigilantism during lockdown has posed a serious challenge to the law and order situation in the country. Instances of racial discrimination have also been recorded. Issues regarding constitutional responsibility of the Government towards jobless daily wage labourers-migrant labourers, poor people who are the immediate victims of necessary lockdown have been at the centre of public discourse. Does the law have any answers to tackle these parallel complex situations cropping up alongside the spread of Coronavirus? What role can law play to tackle this pandemic? What is the legal responsibility of individuals towards the fight against Covid-19?
