Sport has been an integral part of the humankind and some exemplary men and women have set standards of human excellence and endurance with their unmatched grit, determination and hard work. However the path to glory and the glory itself doesn’t seem to be same for men and women. Not only discriminatory treatment in form of low wages, objectification is meted out to women athletes, in fact the females have to satisfy the selection criteria set by a recalcitrant coterie and prove that they are female enough to participate in female sports. This talk aims to bring to fore these issues and discuss the efficacy of existing laws to deal with such issues and the suggestions for ensuring equality in sports.
Kanisshka Tyagi is a currently heading Business Strategies Department of Legum Amicuss, a young dynamic law firm having offices at New Delhi and UAE. Kanisshka has executed and advised both foreign and domestic companies on transactions related to private equity investments, real estate, acquisitions, corporate restructuring arrangements, commercial contracts and secretarial matters.
