What is Man

This DOT Talks webinar held on 11th August 2020 sought to cover Man’s identity as often described and understood differently by society, science, religious scriptures, philosophies, etc.

U.S. Pandey, President of U. P. and Uttarakhand Federation of Theosophical Society, who was the resource speaker tried to answer man’s ever important question – Who am I? Beginning his talk, Pandey provided a brief history of the Theosophical Society which is a worldwide organisation founded in 1875 and works for spiritual and social reforms. The object of the society is “to form a nucleus of universal brotherhood without distinction of race, caste, colour, creed and sex,” he added.

The resource speaker stated that in a social setting, man’s identity is greatly shaped by what society thinks of the person and attributed this to the sociological aspect of a person’s status in the society. Pandey also tried to explain the position of man through the process of negation or contraction and affirmation or expansion. Several schools of thought such as man’s double and triple natures, the seven principles of man, the concept of real man, the inner immortal self and its attributes were discussed at large.

Further, Pandey also explained man’s position and role in process of evolution and the benefits of such knowledge to the individual and the society. The resource speaker also presented various concepts such as man has to become human, humane human and super human or perfect man as co-worker and co-director in progression of humanity and all beings.
