The 25th Anniversary celebration of Tetso College was held in the College premises on 4th December, 2020 with Shri. Medo Yhokha, the newly elected NDPP MLA from the 14th Southern Angami AC- 1 by-election and Advisor to the Chief Minister of Nagaland for Technical Education and Election Department as the Special Guest, members from the Board of Directors, representatives from the Tetso Student Council and well-wishers. Also in attendance were staff, students, alumni, parents and well-wishers who joined the event on various online platforms such as Google Meet and the Tetso College YouTube Channel.
The event was held to celebrate the life of the Founders of the College, Mrs. Shasinle Lorin and Dr. P.S. Lorin, for having the vision to establish Tetso College in the year 1994 with very humble beginnings yet with the firm determination to provide quality education and all round development to the youth of this State and beyond.
Kicking off the proceedings, the NCC Guard of Honour performed the official welcome of respect to the founders Mrs. Shasinle Lorin and Dr. P.S. Lorin. Speaking as chairperson, Dr. Hewasa Lorin, Vice-Principal, Tetso College gave thanks to God for the opportunity to hold such an auspicious occasion in the history of the College.
“It gives me great pleasure to be chairing this programme as we spend today thanking God for his manifold blessings over the 25 years and fondly reflecting on the past memories – the joys, the successes, the trials and challenges – all of which have made Tetso College stronger and better with every passing year,” she said.
The invocation prayer was pronounced by Mr. Jonathan Mesen, the Youth Secretary of Council of Rengma Baptist Churches, which was followed by a tribute song sung by Nokmachiba of BA 3rd Semester, Tetso College titled To God Be The Glory.
Meanwhile, the Founders of the College, Mrs. Shasinle Lorin and Dr. P.S. Lorin, jointly led the unveiling of the Silver Jubilee Foundation Stone to commemorate the 25 year journey of Tetso College.
In the welcome address, Dr. P.S. Lorin, Principal, thanked all the individuals for showering their continuous prayer and support towards the college since the very beginning. He stated that although the college has seen its fair share of ups and downs, the Almighty God has immensely blessed the Tetso family and it is because of that that the college stands proudly as a symbol of excellence. Dr. Lorin also shared a brief history of the college and urged the community to continue praying for the college as it continues to grow in strength.
A compilation of video messages from alumni over the years was also shown during the programme.
To further mark this special day, a video titled Tetso Through the Years was released intended to remember the journey of the College and dedicated to all those who have been a part of the history of the college over the years.
In his address, Medo Yhokha, Advisor to the Chief Minister of Nagaland for Technical Education and Election Department, speaking on behalf of the CM congratulated the college for achieving this great milestone and expressed gratitude to the staff and teachers for being frontrunners in nurturing young students into future citizens of the State. He also lauded the Principal and his team for creating an academic space that is not only limited to classroom learning but also conducive to the overall growth of a student through the many co-curricular activities the College organizes.
Mr. Yhokha who is also an alumnus of Tetso College from the first Pre-University graduating batch of Tetso College in 1996 also expressed interest on behalf of the Government of Nagaland to provide support to students who want to further their academic vision and research goals. Further, he commended the College for consistently bringing out various publications each year such as the Tetso Interdisciplinary Journal and Department e-books, and also conducting seminars and webinars regularly. In conclusion, he challenged the teachers and faculty not to concentrate only in imparting bookish knowledge but to be in tune with the changing times and prepare the students to become leaders to bring about socio-economic development in the State.
To conclude this ceremony, the closing song titled Hero was performed by the General Secy of Higher Secondary, Tetso College Students’ Council Imlikumzuk Imsong of Class 12. A video thank you note was released showcasing all individuals and organisations (past and present) who made significant contributions and rendered help to Tetso College in many different forms. All recordings of the celebration are available on the Tetso College YouTube Channel for viewing. The celebrations concluded with a round of refreshments.
