DOT Talks Webinar Series on Story Telling by Dr. Ananya Ghoshal

Topic Title: The ‘Short Story’- A Reappraisal

This talk will provide an insight into the literary genre of the short story with an emphasis on its structure and technique of storytelling. As humanities scholarship and pedagogy are grounded in stories of human cultural and creative endeavors, it is significant to explore how the reading and writing of short stories have helped re-define contemporary humanities research and teaching. With a firm focus on the 20th and 21st-century literature, the talk will discuss myriad formats of storytelling techniques while outlining the intense, even disruptive impacts that such approaches have already exercised on humanities scholarship.

The broader aim of the talk would be to illustrate the irresistible capacity and potential of storytelling to foster rich interdisciplinary conversations across the earliest traditions of orality and the more contemporary digital mode(s) of storytelling.
