Impact of COVID-19 on Indian Economy
Coronavirus (COVID-19) which originated from Wuhan province of China has spread all over the world causing the death of over 2.5 million people and infected another 3.6 million people all over the world. In India alone over 33000 people are infected with coronavirus and causing the death of about 1600 people till date. Since there is no preventive medicine for this dreaded disease, most of the government all over the world adopted lockdown as the only way to prevent this crisis. As the duration of lockdown extended, the health of the economy broke down causing an economic crisis. In this situation Indian economy faces two major challenges. First is to save the country from the spread of coronavirus, which is a health emergency. Second is to save the economy from the unfolding economic crisis due to the twin effects of the coronavirus pandemic and national lockdown. In this context the presenter will highlight the various sectors affected by this pandemic.

About the speaker:
Dr. Debabrata Sutradhar is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Economics, Tetso College, Dimapur. He did his Phd from National Institute of Technology Silchar, on FDI and Economic Development. His areas of interest are Development Economics, Indian Economics, International Trade and Investment.
