Northeast India comprises of a cluster of eight states – Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Manipur, Nagaland, Sikkim and Tripura. This region is usually stereotyped as underdeveloped. Despite this fact, higher education has grown exponentially in North East India in the recent years and many educational institutions have come under the ambit of UGC NAAC, in which the assessment are at par with the rest of mainland India. Given this fact, there is a need to assess performance of higher education sector in North East against the backdrop of challenges faced in many areas, particularly teaching, learning and evaluation, the key factors in determining the quality of education. As far as quality is concerned, much needs to be done, particularly in the area of teacher education and hence there is a need to continuously expose teachers to up to date methods to help them adapt to changing paradigms.
The Seminar seeks to identify and discuss some key issues pertaining to teaching, learning and evaluation of existing teacher education programs in the region with the hope to learn from each other and come up possible solutions or alternate approaches.
