The Visible and the Invisible: How to study a photograph
We live in a world of images; from hoardings to social networks they overwhelm our everyday. Living in such a hyper real world, we are all too aware that seeing is not believing. Being framed by rules and conventions, the photograph presents challenges as a record of reality, which, by the same reason serves as a site for analysing cultural practices. This conversation looks at photographs as a cultural artefact, focusing on family albums. The focus of the conversation will be on the different approaches to making this popular artefact legible.
